Note | Living 59 Woolstone Rd, Forest Hill SE London 1911 1 servant Extract from "Roan Antelope" July 1953 Volume 2 Number Seven. Page 28 "Mr A Wordingham Arthur Wordingham, a handyman in the Transport section was born at Camberwell in south-east London in May 1885. he first came to Africa in 1912 as import manager to a firm in Zanzibar. In 1914 he joined the Zanzibar Volunteers, seeing service in the East African campaign from 1915 to 1919. After the war he went to Kenya, farming on his own account and stayed there for ten years. In 1929 and 1930 he worked on the reclamation of the harbour at Dar-es-Salaam, after which he went prospecting in Tanganyika Territory. This occupied him for eight years, and then he turned to prospecting for the Nkana Mine. He came to Roan early in 1940, and has put in over 13 years here. He does not intend to be idle in his retirement, as he has told us that he plans to go prospecting again. Good luck Mr Wordingham!" |
