Shared note | Thomas Leche, sixth child and second son of Richard and Hester.He joined the Royal Navy and was promoted Lieutenant especiallyby Admiral Sir Edward Codrington after the battle of Navarino in1827. Promoted Commander in 1837 on the occasion of QueenVictoria's coronation, he was captain of HMS Thunderer inoperations off the coast of Syria, and took part in thebombardment of Sidon and St Jean d'Acre, after which he waspromoted captain in 1841. He commanded HMS Cleopatra in Indiaand China, and HMS Powerful in the Crimean War.
